A large and striking carnelian agate set in a classic 9k yellow gold barley twist setting c1900-10. It measures 2 5/8" x 2", and has a safety catch, which appears to be original. The gold setting is heavy and well made, and all of the claws and rope work are in perfect shape. The stone is a really attractive carnelian agate, 1/4" thick. It has a bevelled edge and is highly polished. It is in excellent and original condition, but I must note that the stone (which was clearly picked for its unusual appearance) has a tiny naturally occuring gap near the edge (about the size of a pin top) and there is a fissure in the stone - again naturally occuring and not detrimental - which looks like a crack. It doesn't go through the stone at all points and will not affect the integrity of the piece, but we like to mention all details, and it is visible in the picture.
