A stylish vintage Victorian large Neoclassical style hair mourning brooch c1860s. This 2" x 1-1/2" pin features the multilayered effect found in Victorian high-style jewellery, and it has great gold appliques and wirework. It features two braids of hair under the original glass, which retains its original bezel. One plait is small and chestnut brown and tied with a pink ribbon, the other larger one is blonde with grey. The mounting and presentation is quite fine, and this unmarked pin tests as 14K yellow gold; it weighs 13.3 grams. It has a c-clasp, and it is in excellent condition with no dents, monograms, corrosion, repairs or damage other than the loss of one decorative "S" applique (easily replaced). A pretty late Victorian period 14k yellow gold & diamond brooch c1895. The free and graceful open whirling design of this piece shows the transition from stylized Victorian to the more flowing Art Nouveau influence. It measures 1" across, and in the centre is a claw set clear white genuine European antique cut diamond, measuring 3.5 mm. across (20 pts) - it is is VS2 diamond of I-J colour. It has the original gate latch safety clasp, where it is stamped 14k. It is in very good condition, with all of the claw work in excellent condition, and the diamond in excellent condition also, but please note there appears to be an old professional repair visible only on the back of the brooch.
