A vintage late Victorian 1-13/16 x 1" brass-mounted Essex crystal pin c1890-1900. Essex crystal features an intaglio carved crystal stone with reverse painting, and in this case the scene is a metallic lustre butterfly flanked by cherry blossoms in pink and green. The ground for the design is a mother-of-pearl lustre, and this unsigned brooch is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than the later replacement of the original c-clasp with a safety catch pin. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use.
