| A fine antique 13-5/8" sterling silver and steel sharpening steel in the Empire or new Empire pattern, issued in 1892 and 1894 by the Gorham Whiting Manufacturing Co. of Providence, RI. This item has a sterling handle and knife guard (knife guard piecehas the pattern also!) and it is stamped with the Whiting mark, STERLING, and PAT. 1894. The blade is polished steel (marked GERMANY), and this scarce accessory piece is in excellent vintage condition, with no breaks, bends, pattern wear, monograms, repairs or damage.
