A 9k gold synthetic or lab-created Alexandrite ring circa 1940s. This vintage size 7 retro ring is yellow gold and it has a round facetted claw-set created solitaire Alexandrite stone. This ring weighs 5.6 grams, it measures 3/4" at the widest and 1/2" across the stone. The stone measures 12 mm across and is approximately 7mm deep (measured in setting), so is approximately 7.25 carats in size. It is marked 9CT and has a maker's mark of CJM. No year mark, possibly removal due to a ring sizing. These simulated alexandrites are usually corundum laced with vanadium to produce the color change under different types of lighting, or a treated colourless chrysoberyl. This created gemstone has been around for almost 100 years, and the stones usually test as corundums or sapphires on a gem tester (natural genuine alexandrites are expensive and uncommon, most of what you will see for sale is the simulated version). This stone color variation is primarily purple-to-blue. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A vintage block printed fabric wall hanging by the Canadian Inuit artist Agnes Nanogak Goose (1925-2001). This highly regarded Holman artist was famous for her ink drawings and as a print maker, and she also produced block printed textiles, including cotton burlap. She was the first Inuit artist to receive and honorary degree from Mt. St. Vincent university. This wall hanging measures 24" x 14-3/4". The is not including the 52" tie cord - it is in the same colour fabric, perhaps the hanging had a wood rod originally, we don't know. A lovely Arts and Crafts period 830 silver high relief rose Skønvirke brooch circa 1900. This antique 2-1/8" x 1-5/8" pin has a long c-clasp and it is marked simply 830. It is quite likely this piece is Scandinavian, it is entirely consistent with early Skønvirke ("beautiful work") made popular by fine Scandinavian silver makers. It greatly resembles early Bernard Hertz work, but is not signed, other than the 830 silver mark. It is typically repousse with a solid flat back, for stability, and it weighs 15.6 grams. A true antique Victorian hand carved waxed meerschaum clay pipe in the form of a cuffed hand holding a bowl. This 4-5/8" smoking accessory features the original pressed amber mouthpiece, the silver plated brass ferrule and the ornately carved cuffed hand and bowl. This example has the warm brown colour found on waxed examples. As an option, quality tobacconists and pipesellers offered a custom waxed finish, a labour intensive preservative and enhancement feature. This one has the typical lightly waxed rim of the bowl as contrast. The detail is superb as you can see. It comes with the original green silk and plush lined hinged leather wrapped case.
