A 14k white gold pearls lily of the valley brooch circa 1950. This elegant vintage 2-1/4" x 1" brooch has six 8mm. cultured pearls and it appears to be a stylized lily of the valley floral spray - a perfect gift for that May birthday. The leaves are hand engraved and the slightly baroque pearls have a nice pinkish lustre; this pin is stamped 14K and it weighs 6.4 grams. A 10k yellow gold man's synthetic blue sapphire ring from the 1950s. This vintage size 9-3/4 or 9.75 ring measures 9/16" x 5/8" along the setting. The square blue stone is bezel-set and open backed and the superb electric blue colour is always evident and shows nice light play from the rear facets (see pics). This classic modernist ring is stamped 10 K with an A+A maker's mark and it weighs a substantial 7.9 grams. Synthetic sapphires are more commonly known kn now as man made or lab created sapphires. They are made from actual colourless sapphires. The interesting effect in the stone was caused by light refraction and the band reflected in the lamp when being photographed - it is not normally present. A 9k gold synthetic or lab-created Alexandrite ring circa 1940s. This vintage size 7 retro ring is yellow gold and it has a round facetted claw-set created solitaire Alexandrite stone. This ring weighs 5.6 grams, it measures 3/4" at the widest and 1/2" across the stone. The stone measures 12 mm across and is approximately 7mm deep (measured in setting), so is approximately 7.25 carats in size. It is marked 9CT and has a maker's mark of CJM. No year mark, possibly removal due to a ring sizing. These simulated alexandrites are usually corundum laced with vanadium to produce the color change under different types of lighting, or a treated colourless chrysoberyl. This created gemstone has been around for almost 100 years, and the stones usually test as corundums or sapphires on a gem tester (natural genuine alexandrites are expensive and uncommon, most of what you will see for sale is the simulated version). This stone color variation is primarily purple-to-blue. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs.
