A Moritz Elimeyer 900 silver brandy pan or measure, probably dating to the late 19th century. This elegant antique silver piece has a twist decoration and interior gilding. It is 5-1/4" in length with the bowl measuring 2-5/8 across the rim with a depth of 1-1/4". It has the company and German post 1886 silver marks of ELIMEYER 900 with an S with crossed hammers Dresden maker's mark and the German post 1886 silver moon and crown. It holds approximately 2 - 2-1/2 ounces, and was used to add a little warming brandy to alleviate the chill in cold weather. It also has a crowned CL crest/monogram on the handle which appears to be a legacy mark from the 16th century House of Hanover royal monogram of Christian Louis, Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg (this item was possibly owned by a descendant). This is the same House of Hanover related to the current British royal family from the reign of George I, who was the reigning Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg when he became the king of England is 1720.
