A Gorham sterling silver miniature chamber stick or candle holder dated 1891. This Victorian era ornate chamberstick stands 1-5/8" high and it measures 3-3/8" across the base. It is stamped with the lion/anchor/G mark, along with STERLING 181 and the year cypher for 1891. Although a dainty size, these small candle holders sat on a writing deak or in a travel writing desk, as they had the practical use of melting sealing wax for an envelope or document. It weighs 41.6 grams. The maximum taper width for the opening is 9/16" across. It is in excellent condition with no monograms, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A hand painted Ashworth Imari ironstone dinner plate from 1899. This wonderfully decorative Victorian 10-1/2" dinner plate is in the Imari palette with a cobalt and gold border and a central floral panel with Oriental cameos around the edge. We haven't found a name for this pattern however B2050 is the same except with a black ground. It has various stamps including the Ashworth's Ironstone crown mark, B, an artist cypher, the B3665(?) pattern number, an impressed W, plus a hard to read impressed mark and a 7/99 date stamp. This super display plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, losses, damage or repairs. A pair of Victorian milk glass applied flowers mantle vases. These 1880s vases measure 4-5/8" tall and they feature turquoise blue glass flowers and leaves and light amber coloured stems appled to the ouside of the vases; they are as typically found unsigned and they are in excellent condition with no cracks, repairs or damage other than the loss of one petal on one vase. A fine example of mid-Victorian Naturalism. This is a silver plated egg stand in the form of tree branches, with the English registry mark for 1871. This set consists of the four silver plated 2-3/8" high eggcups and the cast metal 5-1/2" tall handled base with branches and leaves. The base measures 4-1/2" across, it has branch supports for four spoons (not present), and it has the registry mark on the bottom. Also on the bottom is a W7754 pattern number and an obscured maker's mark; it appears to have been re-plated in the past as shown by the lack of tarnish in the deep crevasses. This table serving accessory is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A fine repousse sterling celluloid chatelaine comb circa 1890s with a celluloid comb. This 2-3/8 x 5/8" accessory has the original suspension loop, and it is stamped F&B 115 STERLING. Made by Theodore Foster & Bros. This simple and elegant late Regency period sterling silver master butter knife is in the Fiddle pattern and it is fully hallmarked for London, England 1836. It has a WE maker's mark (most likely Wm. A large and heavy 8-1/2" Georgian Dublin sterling silver dinner fork, hallmarked for 1829. This heavy fork has an attractive double dolphin crest on the back of the handle and has the maker's mark for Matthew West and Peter Moore. Antique Irish silver is far scarcer than English, and this fork is a great find. This item is in excellent condition, with no dents, bends, monograms, wear, scratches, corrosion, repairs or damage other than some very light scoring on the extreme bottom ends of the tines from use. A simple 7" pre-Victorian English pewter sauce ladle by John Yates, Birmingham. Yates (1788-1881) produced spoons and ladles from c1808 to c1840, and this example has his early IO HN YHA TES stamp. A pair of English sterling silver master salt spoons, fully hallmarked for London, England 1817. They are 4" in length., and have the maker's mark for Wm. Chawner (entered 1815). They weigh 34.5 grams. There is a heraldic crest of an English Ducal coronet with a lion rampant holding a circular object. A genuine late 17th to mid 18th century hand made openwork European grade sterling pierced strainer or ladle with a gilded bowl. This unusual 8" ladle has a gilt and pierced 2-3/8" x 2" bowl with a pouring lip, and would be a slightly higher than 800 grade silver. The openwork handle has wonderfully ornate hand made wire-work with two central medallions, which have never been engraved/monogrammed. The handle is completely hand made and it is applied to the bowl with a rat-tail. It has two hallmarks on the back of the handle, the clearest of the two is a round punch with an animal figure that appears to be a standing bear with an I to the right (the stamp was slightly larger than the handle, so the animal head is missing). This appears to be a mark used in Berlin (Germany) in the 17th and 18th century. The other mark is a simple S or snake mark, and we have not traced this mark/maker. The style, workmanship, patina and appearance of the piece is consistent with German and Austrian silver being manufactured in this period, so the mark is consistent with the visible age of the piece (late 17th to mid 18th century). We haven't run across this exact utensil before, so are unsure which particular food or drink it was used to strain - it could be a variant of a fruit punch or mead or wine strainer or skimmer. It is in really exceptionally fine condition with no monograms, repairs or damage. The end of the filigree work nearest the bowl is not soldered, but this may be an aspect of design rather than a break in the silver that may have occurred. A Sheffield plate helmet style cream jug circa 1780-1800. This 5" high genuine cream pitcher predates electroplating and it consists of thin layers of silver laid on to copper sheets; the sandwich of metals is then formed into the desired object. This unsigned creamer is in good original condition with no dents, bends, corrosion, damage or repairs; it has the expected areas of copper blush from polishing over the last couple of centuries. Re-plating these period pieces tends to devalue them from a Sheffield plate collection point of view.
