A 9k gold synthetic or lab-created Alexandrite ring circa 1940s. This vintage size 7 retro ring is yellow gold and it has a round facetted claw-set created solitaire Alexandrite stone. This ring weighs 5.6 grams, it measures 3/4" at the widest and 1/2" across the stone. The stone measures 12 mm across and is approximately 7mm deep (measured in setting), so is approximately 7.25 carats in size. It is marked 9CT and has a maker's mark of CJM. No year mark, possibly removal due to a ring sizing. These simulated alexandrites are usually corundum laced with vanadium to produce the color change under different types of lighting, or a treated colourless chrysoberyl. This created gemstone has been around for almost 100 years, and the stones usually test as corundums or sapphires on a gem tester (natural genuine alexandrites are expensive and uncommon, most of what you will see for sale is the simulated version). This stone color variation is primarily purple-to-blue. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs.
