A fine example of mid-Victorian Naturalism. This is a silver plated egg stand in the form of tree branches, with the English registry mark for 1871. This set consists of the four silver plated 2-3/8" high eggcups and the cast metal 5-1/2" tall handled base with branches and leaves. The base measures 4-1/2" across, it has branch supports for four spoons (not present), and it has the registry mark on the bottom. Also on the bottom is a W7754 pattern number and an obscured maker's mark; it appears to have been re-plated in the past as shown by the lack of tarnish in the deep crevasses. A true antique Victorian hand carved waxed meerschaum clay pipe in the form of a cuffed hand holding a bowl. This 4-5/8" smoking accessory features the original pressed amber mouthpiece, the silver plated brass ferrule and the ornately carved cuffed hand and bowl. This example has the warm brown colour found on waxed examples. As an option, quality tobacconists and pipesellers offered a custom waxed finish, a labour intensive preservative and enhancement feature. This one has the typical lightly waxed rim of the bowl as contrast. The detail is superb as you can see. It comes with the original green silk and plush lined hinged leather wrapped case. An antique pair of Niagara falls souvenir milk glass spills or mantle vases. These vintage 6" inch tall vases have sprayed-on green colour and hand painted scenes of the falls with thickly dabbed white "foam". The legend SOUVENIR OF NIAGARA FALLS is painted in gold, and these vases show the roughness, straw marks and flaws typical of such souvenir ware. The glass was usually made of stock moulds and was quickly and inexpensively produced. These vases would have been undecorated blanks originally, painted to order for a wholesaler or shop. An Indonesian Yogya solid silver belt buckle from 1900 or earlier. This beautifully hand tooled openwork buckle measures 4-1/2 x 2-7/8" when the two halves are attached with their hook and eye clasp. They have one belt retention bar each and it is unsigned but tests as high grade silver. A 10k Victorian 19th century chain necklace. This attractive 16-7/8" chain consists of 1/8" wide double links and it has later gold filled ends (a swivel and a springring). An early to mid 19th century turned yew (or fruit) wood covered gaming cup with 9 hand carved and painted bone die c1820-50. The box retains some of its original red stain and it measures 2-1/8" tall and 1-1/4" across the top. The dice are also 19th century vintage, and measure 3/8" (largest), 5/16" (medium) and the remaining seven are 1/4" across. A simple 7" pre-Victorian English pewter sauce ladle by John Yates, Birmingham. Yates (1788-1881) produced spoons and ladles from c1808 to c1840, and this example has his early IO HN YHA TES stamp. A hand engraved Georgian 9k yellow gold and RGP engraved watch key. This 1-7/8 x 3/4" winding key features a rolled gold plate rotating swivel loop and a rotating knob on the RGP winding shaft. Both have underlying metal for rigidity and resistance to wear (gold is very soft), but the body of the key tests as 9 carat gold (the key is unmarked). A large and heavy 8-1/2" Georgian Dublin sterling silver dinner fork, hallmarked for 1829. This heavy fork has an attractive double dolphin crest on the back of the handle and has the maker's mark for Matthew West and Peter Moore. Antique Irish silver is far scarcer than English, and this fork is a great find. This item is in excellent condition, with no dents, bends, monograms, wear, scratches, corrosion, repairs or damage other than some very light scoring on the extreme bottom ends of the tines from use. Otherwise this fork is in unusually excellent condition. A genuine late 17th to mid 18th century hand made openwork European grade sterling pierced strainer or ladle with a gilded bowl. This unusual 8" ladle has a gilt and pierced 2-3/8" x 2" bowl with a pouring lip, and would be a slightly higher than 800 grade silver. The openwork handle has wonderfully ornate hand made wire-work with two central medallions, which have never been engraved/monogrammed. The handle is completely hand made and it is applied to the bowl with a rat-tail. It has two hallmarks on the back of the handle, the clearest of the two is a round punch with an animal figure that appears to be a standing bear with an I to the right (the stamp was slightly larger than the handle, so the animal head is missing). This appears to be a mark used in Berlin (Germany) in the 17th and 18th century. The other mark is a simple S or snake mark, and we have not traced this mark/maker. The style, workmanship, patina and appearance of the piece is consistent with German and Austrian silver being manufactured in this period, so the mark is consistent with the visible age of the piece (late 17th to mid 18th century). We haven't run across this exact utensil before, so are unsure which particular food or drink it was used to strain - it could be a variant of a fruit punch or mead or wine strainer or skimmer. It is in really exceptionally fine condition with no monograms, repairs or damage. The end of the filigree work nearest the bowl is not soldered, but this may be an aspect of design rather than a break in the silver that may have occurred.
