A scarce and unusual Victorian sterling silver and gold Mizpah bracelet c1870-90 (they are sometimes also referred to as Luckenbooth bracelets). This unmarked piece of sentimental Victorian jewellery features a spring-style bangle configuration mounted with the attached hearts under a bow, with yellow gold engraved flowers and rose gold leaves on textured silver tendrils. This unusual Victorian period bracelet measures 2-1/2" x 2-1/4" across the interior and 5/8" across the heart and ribbon. There is a retaining pin at the bottom of one heart to lock the bangle closed in place, it weighs 9.5 grams, and this item is in very good condition with no bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than two dents on one heart and on one edge of the bracelet and a bit of flattening near the bottom. An attractive mid-Victorian mourning brooch c1860-80. It is a pressed horn with a dark resinous/lacquer finish to resemble jet or bog oak (which was a semi-petrified and preserved wood from the marshy bogs of Ireland, less common even in the 19th century, so also imitated). This 1-5/8" x 1" pin features a high relief flower spray; it has the original brass c-clasp. This piece of mourning jewelry is in excellent original condition with no cracks, losses, damage or repairs except a small edge flake. A mid-Victorian 2-1/4 x 1-7/8" reverse painted Essex crystal brooch c1850s-60s. This pin features a rolled gold plated setting with the original long c-clasp and pin. The reverse carved and hand painted flowers have silver paint (with some oxidation on a few of the flowers) and the crystal is bevelled. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, however there is a small 3/8" segment of the bezel metal missing along one edge. There is an internal glass flaw which appears as a line across the crystal, but this can't be felt on the top of the crystal or seen on the painted underside and it is not a crack. It is quite likely this piece is Scandinavian, it is entirely consistent with early Skønvirke ("beautiful work") made popular by fine Scandinavian silver makers.
