A lovely Arts and Crafts period 830 silver high relief rose Skønvirke brooch circa 1900. This antique 2-1/8" x 1-5/8" pin has a long c-clasp and it is marked simply 830. It is quite likely this piece is Scandinavian, it is entirely consistent with early Skønvirke ("beautiful work") made popular by fine Scandinavian silver makers. It greatly resembles early Bernard Hertz work, but is not signed, other than the 830 silver mark. It is typically repousse with a solid flat back, for stability, and it weighs 15.6 grams. A Victorian 10k yellow gold ring featuring genuine blue iolites and natural seed pearls circa 1880s. The iolites are a deep royal blue gem stone in round antique cut. Burmese sapphires were expensive and often difficult to obtain in the late 19thC, so good quality iolites were sometimes used - these stones are original to the ring, not replacements. The flower circle design stayed popular into the Edwardian period, although Edwardian examples were usually simpler with less gem stones. The top of this size 4 antique ring measures 1/2" across, it weighs 2.3 grams, and it is stamped 10K with an arrow maker's mark. The iolites are reasonably well colour matched and in good condition, but one stone is deeper in color. The halogens threw off the colour of one in the pictures. It is a pressed horn with a dark resinous/lacquer finish to resemble jet or bog oak (which was a semi-petrified and preserved wood from the marshy bogs of Ireland, less common even in the 19th century, so also imitated). This 1-5/8" x 1" pin features a high relief flower spray; it has the original brass c-clasp.
