A nice mid-Victorian early thermoplastic or vulcanite cameo brooch c1860-70. Made of the same medium brown thermoplastic used in the era for items such as photograph cases (and sometimes mis-described as gutta percha, and also known by the trade name of Vulcanite), this 1-7/8" x 1-1/2" brooch has fine detail, and it depicts a cameo of very high definition (she sits a full 3/8" above the surface platform). She is a classical period Greek beauty with her eyes closed and a look of rapture on her face - she looks like Penelope from the classic Greek epic myth. The platform surface is surrounded by a twisted rope border. It has a replaced pin with a safety catch, and this lovely pin is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, staining, corrosion, repairs or damage other than the pin replacement. A stylish antique Victorian period large Neoclassical style hair / mourning brooch c1860-70. This 2" x 1-1/2" pin features the multilayered effect found in Victorian high-style jewellery, and it has great gold appliques and fine ropework. It features two braids of blonde and brown hair under the original glass, which retains its original bezel. One plait is small and chestnut brown and tied with a pink ribbon, the other larger one is blonde with grey. The mounting and presentation is quite fine, and this unmarked pin tests as 14K yellow gold; it weighs 13.3 grams. An 18k diamonds and cornflower sapphires row ring circa 1890. This Victorian period size 6 ring is 18k yellow gold, with genuine natural sapphires and antique sut diamonds. It measures 3/4" x 3/16" across the setting, the two diamonds measure approximately 10 points each by gauge, and the cornflower blue sapphires measure approximately 6 points each (side) and 12 points (central). This ring weighs 2.0 grams, it is stamped 18CT with a CT maker's mark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs. A mid-Victorian 2-1/4 x 1-7/8" reverse painted Essex crystal brooch c1850s-60s. This pin features a rolled gold plated setting with the original long c-clasp and pin. The reverse carved and hand painted flowers have silver paint (with some oxidation on a few of the flowers) and the crystal is bevelled. This item is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, dents, bends, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs, however there is a small 3/8" segment of the bezel metal missing along one edge. There is an internal glass flaw which appears as a line across the crystal, but this can't be felt on the top of the crystal or seen on the painted underside and it is not a crack. It is barely visible under natural or room lights, however it shows up under our halogens (see picture).
